Co-curricular Program
Performing Arts
The Performing Arts are a vital part of life at Balwyn High School.
Both curricular and co-curricular Drama and Theatre Arts are flourishing. The participation in school productions has tremendous educational value. This participation provides challenges to the individual and is great fun!
Theatre Arts
Co-curricular Theatre Arts opportunities include school productions and musicals, with performance, technical, backstage and stage-craft roles available – all areas in which the students are encouraged to develop their skills. This program is designed to extend the practical and performance focus of the VCE courses in Music and Performing Arts that can be selected in Years 11 and 12. Drama and Dance are part of the curriculum in Years 9 to 12. The students are encouraged to participate in a variety of classroom activities and attendance at professional theatrical productions is encouraged.
The Theatre Arts Department and the Music Department combine to stage regular musical productions, drawing talent from the whole school and providing memorable experiences for large numbers of students. Our Theatre Arts Captains provide valuable mentoring to our younger students and are integral in providing support and leadership to student groups.
In 2005, the Music Faculty staged a production of Henry Purcell’s baroque opera masterpiece, Dido and Aeneas.
