THE SPORTS PROGRAM
Balwyn High School has a long and proud sporting tradition. Students participate in district, zone and state level sports, and in the house sport competitions.
A range of inter-school competitions is offered to our students. These include cricket, baseball, softball, tennis, volleyball, golf, lawn bowls, badminton, football, netball, soccer, basketball, hockey, table tennis, squash, swimming, athletics and cross-country.
More than 800 students participate in the school Sports Program and there are more than 120 teacher and student coaches.
Depending on student interest, other sports are also supported. These have included rugby, snow skiing and boarding, canoe polo, road and mountain bike hiking, horse riding and cheerleading.
Sport is also part of the curriculum program in Year 7 and Year 8.
FEATURES OF THE PROGRAM
The Sport Program has many features.
They include:
- a competitive house system consisting of four houses
- Churchill
- Edinburgh
- Strathmore, and
- Windsor
- sports captains who provide student leadership in the Sports Program
- house swimming and athletics carnivals
- Saturday table tennis coaching
- lunchtime sports activities, including competitions, trials and training
North Balwyn Lawn Bowls Club offers scholarships to keen students.
The school has achieved outstanding results in sporting endeavours.
