Student Leadership

Balwyn High School will encourage maximum student participation in the decision-making processes of the school by establishing structures which enable student opinion to be voiced, thereby developing a sense of civic responsibility and pride in their school. It is the responsibility of all members of the school community to promote, foster and encourage students to take on roles of leadership, responsibility and commitment to their school.

The school aims to promote leadership in many areas including community service, sport, music, and drama. The following programs are offered to students to encourage and support student participation in leadership.

The selection of Year Level leaders, SRC representatives, Senior School Council (Year 11), Student Ambassadors, Environmental Ambassadors, Social Service Ambassadors, STEP leaders and House Captains will take place in Term 4, once the Year 12 leadership team has been finalised. Tutorial Captains are selected at the beginning of the next year once classes have begun. Year level assemblies and the school student email system will be used to keep potential applicants and staff informed of the timelines.

Deborah Harman (Assistant Principal) and Rob Malpeli (Coordinator) are responsible for Student Voice/Leadership in the school and welcome your input into this highly valued aspect of the co-curricula program. They will work closely with Karen Harris, Joanna Alexander, Liria Stratus, Program Coordinators and the Year Level Coordinators to ensure the continued success of student leadership at BHS.
