Laptop Program
The learning technology program at Balwyn High School recognises the importance of developing cyber awareness, so students appreciate the need to use technology appropriately. This is emphasised and explained regularly through level assemblies, general assemblies, the Acceptable Usage Policy, the Student Code of Conduct and the Laptop Code of Practice. These guidelines are supplimented by state of the art filtering using WebSense technologies to provide a safe online environment at school and at home.
In 2013, all students at Balwyn High School are able to benefit from the program. Some of these benefits include:
- Online research
- Online textbooks (a lighter school bag!)
- Online calendar and reminders
- SharePoint, an online student-centred learning environment, connecting students and teachers
- Communication between school and home
- Online tutorials (e.g. Language Perfect)
- IT support at school
Students at Balwyn High School lease a laptop for 3 years. This means that throughout your child's school life they will have two laptops, one for use in Years 7 to 9, and one for in Years 10 to 12.

In senior school, the ability to process information is critical - much more important than the need to learn and memorise specific facts. Creativity, self management and collaboration are important benefits to our acclaimed laptop program. With vast amounts of content presented to a senior school student, the laptop becomes an invaluable tool to help the student distill this information into a manageable form, useful for self directed revision and exam preparation.
