Parents and Friends of Sport

Membership of the Friends of Sport of Balwyn High School is open to any parent, caregiver, ex-student or interested community member.

Friends of Sport recognise the vital importance of sport in contributing to the balanced development of young people.

Friends of Sport acknowledge the role of sport in providing opportunities for young people to develop life skills such as teamwork, leadership and commitment. Enhanced self-esteem and a sense of connectedness to peers, team, school and community can be further benefits through active involvement in sport.

Friends of Sport are committed to:

  • access to and participation in the sports program for all students
  • the encouragement of success of individuals and teams
  • the support and recognition of successful individuals and teams

Friends of Sport pledge to support the Sport Faculty of Balwyn High School through the:

  1. encouragement of staff and students involved in sport
  2. provision of financial support for:
    1. purchasing equipment and uniforms
    2. successful individuals or teams who compete at state or national level
    3. provision of scholarships for outstanding students
  3. Active seeking of direct community support from individuals and organisations in the school and wider community for the sports program through the involvement of interested experts to:
    1. coach individuals and or teams
    2. referee games
    3. officiate at events
    4. administer teams or competitions
(This may be achieved through an annual fundraising event and/or sponsorship.)
  4. Development of a broader sports program such as:
    1. school representative teams who train and play out-of-school hours. This would involve students and possibly ex-students and parents.
    2. inclusion of new sports in the program
(These could be established if deemed desirable after thorough investigation.)
  5. The keeping of a register of any non-teacher volunteers who are involved in the school’s sport program. The register will be forwarded to the Principal for ratification by the School Council.
