Sport
Balwyn High School is affiliated with School Sport Victoria (SSV), with selected and successful individuals and teams competing at three levels; Division, Region and State level. Balwyn High School is part of the Boroondara Division and compete at the Eastern Metropolitan Region (EMR) finals before competing at the State Championships.
At Balwyn High School, we are consistent with SSV and provide opportunities for all students, regardless of gender, race or culture, in both segregated (against other students with a disability) and in integrated (with able bodied students) settings.
Interschool Sport at Balwyn High School is an extracurricular program that offers students the opportunity to participate in a wide array of sporting disciplines, including Basketball, Tennis, Baseball, Softball, Cricket, Badminton, Football (Soccer), Australian Rules Football, Netball, Table Tennis, Hockey, Ultimate Frisbee, Volleyball, and Handball. Each year, over 1,000 students engage in the program, reflecting the school’s strong culture of participation and excellence in sport. Balwyn High School has established a distinguished reputation for success, consistently achieving outstanding results at the State level in sports such as Badminton, Table Tennis, Hockey, and Swimming.
Students will participate in the three House Carnivals: Swimming, Track & Field and Cross Country. Participation in these events allows students to be awarded points that contribute towards the overall House winner. Balwyn High School offers an extensive range of sporting opportunities in collaboration with State Sporting Organisations, including Ultimate Victoria, Athletics Victoria, Basketball Victoria, Orienteering Victoria, Gymnastics Victoria, and Lacrosse Victoria. Furthermore, students are afforded the opportunity to engage in a variety of specialised competitions, including Cheerleading, Snowsports, and Chess.
Sport Education
Balwyn High School delivers a comprehensive Sport Education program that aligns with the Department of Education’s policies and is a compulsory component of the curriculum for students in Years 7 and 8. The program is designed to develop students’ technical skills and tactical understanding of selected sports through active participation, while also enhancing their communication and teamwork capabilities. Each term, the sports offered reflect those available in the Interschool Sport program, with many sessions conducted at local community facilities. The program also provides additional opportunities for students to engage in specialised activities such as Rowing, Lawn Bowls, and Pickleball.
